[22 Memories]
Every moment gives us a choice. Given the same set of circumstances, how many choices are there in that moment? In this art project, we look at a fixed set of rules and circumstances and discover 22 different outcomes from choices made. What would have happened if I had just…
Choices leave an imprint, like pen on paper, and we can’t go back. Choices become memories, the exact circumstances lost forever but the result etched into time. These are my 22 memories from the summer of 2021. Each one is different and only exists as one.
These prints also include a certificate to declare its originality. But there might be a hidden treasure within, if you hold the certificate just right.
PROCESS:
22 different artist proofs from the same generative network were created and pen plotted on 5x7 archival paper with 005 black micron pens. Only one print of each design was put to paper, and the network settings lost forever. A moment in time created and destroyed, leaving only a paper memory.
The network used a grid to copy an object in space, while rotating or scaling the object based on an input. In this case, the inputs were color values from random noise, converted to vectors to transform the rotation of the original object. A sine or sometimes ramp waveform was used to transform the scale. The objects could be lines, triangles, cubes, or polygons. The grid could be a plane or even a tube. Within the rules of this tiny universe exist near-infinite possibilities, but only 22 solutions left behind memories to share.
